Poison Ivy Removal

We pull poison ivy by hand in nitrile gloves and Tyvek coveralls, then dig out the root crown with a hand trowel or digging fork so it doesn't come back. On large patches, we cut the growth back with loppers first and spot-treat any regrowth with a triclopyr herbicide. Everything is double-bagged in contractor bags and hauled away. We never burn or compost it.

Poison Oak and Sumac Removal

We cut down shrub-form poison oak and poison sumac with loppers and a pruning saw. Then we either dig out the root ball with a mattock or treat the fresh-cut stumps with glyphosate. Sumac tends to grow in wet, swampy ground, so we wear rubber boots and work from the edge inward. After every job, we wipe our tools down with rubbing alcohol to strip off the urushiol oil.

Poison Ivy Vine Removal from Trees

We sever climbing vines at the base with a pruning saw and paint the cut stump with triclopyr. The upper vine is left in place to die back on its own, because pulling it down live can tear bark off the trunk.

Poison Ivy Prevention and Control

We return on a set schedule to spot-spray new seedlings with a backpack sprayer. On cleared areas, we lay landscape fabric and mulch to keep new growth from taking hold.

How Much Does Poison Ivy Removal Cost?

Poison ivy removal typically costs $285 to $1,850 for a one-time job. Price depends mainly on the square footage of the patch and how deep the root crowns run. Expect to pay more for thick vines climbing mature trees, steep slopes, or follow-up triclopyr treatments to knock back regrowth.
